Change to stat

There's is this storys that now says that its going to be now 7 innings to get quality starts.

The unearned runs count as well. For example, if 4 unearned runs are given up, it's not a quality start even if only 2 of them were earned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.30.135.13 (talk) 22:50, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Obviously never happened. NjtoTX (talk) 01:43, 3 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Too Negative

Here's discussion on why QS should not be ripped so much: http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/newsstand/discussion/henneman_mlb_should_abolish_quality_start_from_statistics/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamcyclops (talkcontribs) 21:01, 25 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I changed the park factors to make clear that this is not a problem unique to quality starts. I eliminated the discussion of "range factor" in the defense since range is just one of many things that go into the quality of defense. In any case, a defenders statistical "range factor" is not an accurate measure of the player's range since it likely contains some artifacts of the pitching staff.

All-Time Through 2014 Error

"Since 1921, and through the 2014 MLB season, the overall leaders by percentage (min. 100 starts)" is wrong. Jacob deGrom leads the all-time section with 136 starts. He was a rookie in 2014, so it's obviously including starts after 2014 for him. I don't know if it's including starts after 2014 for other active pitchers, so I didn't change the year to 2018. Peace of Mind

IIRC, the stat was developed for managerial purposes. It's peace of mind to know your guy won't combust early on and tax the bullpen, a guy who will hand off to the setup man in the seventh inning with the team at least still in the game.

It doesn't reflect great pitching, it reflects steady pitching. And that is a prize. Looking at the 2019 statistics, the number of pitchers who give quality starts even 60% of the time averages only to about one per team.68.196.1.236 (talk) 13:56, 29 May 2020 (UTC)captcrisisReply

All-time Career Quality Start Leaders

I'm a bit confused by why two of the columns in the table in this section are even there. This table seems to list the all time career leaders for quality starts (QS) but it seems to show their stats only in their quality starts, not all of their career. As such the column 'GS' seems superfluous--if we are limiting the table to what happened only in the quality starts then, by definition, QS will always match GS. Additionally, if we are talking about games the pitcher had a quality start, those are certainly starts so the SV number (saves) will always be zero. Please let me know your thoughts but absent any comments I'll delete the two columns GS and SV in a few days. Dash77 (talk) 03:45, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

As no objections were noted I've gone ahead and made this change. Dash77 (talk) 03:42, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Framber Valdez

well with this recent game Valdez went to 22 QS in a row this makes him have the longest streak for a left handed pitcher. 158.135.173.179 (talk) 03:26, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
