It looks like Projection plane is about the geometric concept, while Picture plane is about the concept in the visual arts, Image plane is used in optics and computer graphics. They're definitely all very closely related. To me, Image plane seems to be the most niche and the best candidate for being merged into one of the other two; I feel less clear about whether Picture plane and Projection plane ought to be merged, and which into which. I would probably merge Image plane into Picture plane, considering computer graphics to be essentially a special case of perspective in visual arts more broadly, and then consider whether this topic (Projection plane) has enough sources and substance to merit being its own article or not.-Bryanrutherford0 (talk) 15:03, 1 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
The term picture plane is an established term in perspective drawing. The coinage projection plane calls out reference to projective geometry, a classical study in mathematics. Usage of this coined term signifies ignorance of established terminology in the field. Planes are ubiquitous in projective geometry and saying one of them is the projection plane indicates a lack of awareness of projective geometry.
