Jacotin (Pierre), cartographe né à Champigny-lès-Langres, (Haute-Marne) le 11 avril 1765, mort à Paris le 4 avril 1827, Il fut d'abord attaché comme géomètre au cadastre de la Corse (1781-96), suivit Bonaparte en Égypte (1798) et devint rapidement directeur des opé rations topographiques, directeur du corps des ingénieurs géographes, membre de l'Institut d'Égypte, Ason retour en France (1801), il fut promu au grade de colonel du génie et nommé chef de la partie topographique du Dépôt général de la guerre; Il conserva ces fonctions jusqu'à sa mort. Il a eu une grande part aux rapides; progrès que fit à cette époque la gravure topographique. Il a personnellement dressé un grand Atlas de l'Égypte et de la Syrie en 53 feuilles, une Carte d'Espagne en 20 feuilles(1823), une belle Carte de la Corse en 8 feuilles (1824). C'est en outre sous sa direction qu'a été commencée la fameuse Carte de l'état major au 1/80 000. (L. S.).
