The lack of any negative literary criticism in this article is rather telling. Serious critics will point out that Reilly's work lacks any character depth or philosophy, is a rough stapling of tired Hollywood cliches, and has descriptive narrative akin to that produced by primary school students. The only praise this obviously fan-maintained (or Reilly-maintained) article could dig up was that the books are very fast. Very good, but if that's all you've got then it ain't much.

The fact of the matter is that Matthew Reilly is a terrible writer and his books are primarily digested by semi-literate young people who never read a REAL book. They're insanely unrealistic, way beyond any reasonable level of willing suspension of disbelief. They're filled with cardboard stereotypes and inane flat dialogue. He's also a blatant self-promoting egotist who had to mooch money off his family in order to SELF-publish his silly juvenile drivel. Ooooh, and now he drives a DeLorean! What a poser.

Anyway, if the article is to be taken seriously as unbiased then you should include both positive AND negative literary reviews.

Can I suggest that this discussion page be improved by replacing the above (unnecessarily angry) tirade with something like 'shouldn't the article include more balances reviews of Reilly's work?' - might be a little more in keeping with the idea of Wikipedia?

There is no easy way to find that information. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is just the source to turn to. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. Though, I will do some googling around to see what turns up. I realize this case is specifically referring to an author releasing his own work, but websites like Project Gutenberg have been around for a long time. Wouldn't it also be possible to find countless instances where authors have released work online? What constitutes a "book"? Yes, you can definitely find Hover Car Racer in PDF format on the 'Net. Matthew Reilly uploaded to his website for his fans to read. It's perfectly legal since Mathew Reilly himself uploaded it.

Matthew Reilly is one of my favourite authors, up there with Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Victor Hugo. I'm not kidding - his books are the fastest paced books I've ever read and I enjoy them thoroughly!

I just deleted this part...

"It is rumoured that Shane Schofield (from Ice Station, Area 7, Scarecrow and Hell Island),
will meet with Jack West, Jr. (from Seven Ancient Wonders) in future Reilly books."

I read up on the MR forums alot, and I've never heard from an MR interview or something like that about a crossover. I don't think MR can write about them as a small part, and they are two big to have in the same story.

Perhaps it should be mentioned that his trailer was uniquely impressive in that it involved advanced and expensive special effects of an alien. Apparently the movie companies were used to receiving plain footage of people just doing simple acting. From the top of my head I think all this information was available from one of the "interviews" in the back of one of his books, so it could be sourced from that.

Is it absolutely confirmed that he is even writing the book? Is it possible a user might be using his account on that fan-forum to make up a rumour? It's just that there's been nothing on his website or in any interviews about a new novel, and Six Ancient Stones sounds like a pretty silly title for a book. In the past, the information given there by Matthew has been reliable, the title is 6 Sacred Stones, not ancient. Also, seeing his website is only updated once every few months, as opposed to the potential regularity of a fansite, so I wouldn't lose too much sleep just yet, especially if it's stated that it isn't yet confirmed. Since Matthew Reilly redirects to Matthew Reilly (writer), shouldn't we change the page name? There is no other Matthew Reilly on Wikipedia.

Reilly referenced this article in his latest blog entry, stating that it is pretty inaccurate. I don't know if it's notable enough to include within the article, but it should be some inspiration to clean-up the article. Blackngold29 04:01, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Maybe it's just me, but when I first read 'Reilly's heroes', I assumed it was referring to 'childhood' heroes of Reilly himself - wouldn't a term like 'protagonists' be clearer?

in the end of his interview in "5 greatest warriors", he stated that wikipedia is mostly inaccurate, stating that it contains 7 basic errors about him. I propose that Hover Car Racer, Jack West Jr, Seven Ancient Wonders (, The Six Sacred Stones, , The Five Greatest Warriors, Contest , Temple (1999),The Tournament, Shane Schofield, Ice Station, Area 7, Scarecrow, Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves and Hell Island be merged into Matthew Reilly.
