The article currently says, "The longitudinal growth of long bones is a result of endochondral calcification at the epiphyseal plate." I'm not a doctor, but I think this should read "endochondral ossification." In other words, I think "calcification" should be replaced with "ossification." I believe that calcification goes on during the ossification process; however, calcification alone is only used to represent bone growth around injuries. I think that normal bone growth in long bones occurs due to ossification.
So, for the moment, I'm going to change things to ossification and try to get in touch with someone who knows for sure. If someone who knows for sure reads this before I can get back to it, please feel free to fix my mistake (if I have made one).

epiphyseal plate are growth plates.. still doesn't explain why it should be directed here though
'Found more in women'?
After the section describing the composition of long bones, the sentence "They are found more in women." appears. I don't know whether it's just because I'm tired, but I can't make sense of it - to what does 'they' refer here? Rissa (talk) 01:34, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
