Kiladar(Kila is a Hindi word for fort[1], -Dar is a suffix that signifies a job, hence kiladar means custodian of a fort[2]) was a title for the governor of a fort or large town in medieval India.[3] The office had the same function as Castellan.[4] From Aryan times the title was given to the military minister of a large town and the surrounding area.[5]
