For the first time, a scientific way of measuring elevations was possible

Currently, the article states that with the invention of the barometer, “For the first time, a scientific way of measuring elevations was possible.” Without a reference, that sounds like an uninformed personal opinion. Was it not possible before to measure elevations with trigonometry? Since there is likewise no reference for the claim that the interpolation of spot heights was a consequence of the barometer, I will remove that whole passage. ◀ Sebastian 22:25, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

On a related note, it is also strange that the epochal achievement by “Francois Pasumot” (correctly spelled François Pasumot) is not mentioned in the French Wikipedia, nor even in a book dedicated to the topic, https://books.google.de/books?id=-I6WurxXeI0C&pg=PA172&lpg=PA172&dq=Fran%C3%A7ois+Pasumot+altitude&source=bl&ots=Aiw4-Hk5A8&sig=ACfU3U0n6LnNlgApya-djVA9Yqi6eNxV-Q&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiqps3N_8DpAhXzwcQBHWXkA0cQ6AEwAHoECAkQAQ#v=onepage&q=Fran%C3%A7ois%20Pasumot%20altitude&f=false. So I'll remove him, too. ◀ Sebastian 22:49, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
