Not Apple only?
I've also seen Valve using this https://partner.steamgames.com/documentation/running_on_steam. The article sounds like only Apple uses it. AlicanC (talk) 02:27, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
In the Software Release cycle page it specifies that this seems to be "be confined mainly to game software."

Gold master =/= Golden master
It specifically says that it should not be confused with Gold master, yet Gold master redirects here? I don't have the time to fix this though, could someone else?

Vastly predates Apple's use of the term
The term was used much earlier than the 1980s, perhaps from Edison's "Gold Molded" cylinders; the masters used for production were literally made using gold electrodes, and referred to as gold masters. See e.g. http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/edhtml/edcyldr.html.
Golden Master and Gold Master definitely different
This article has been modified so much that it is way more confusing than I had left it. The terms Golden Master and Gold Master are not one and the same.
No one stated Apple invented the term Golden Master. Apple just uses the term for software releases. (Such a statement should not be in the paragraph History, History usually refers to the origin of the term.)
A mention of a firm using Gold Master isn't relevant to this article but is understandable since Gold Master is redirecting here. Who made it redirect here. They need to fix that. There used to be a good article on the recording industry's use of the term Gold Master. Gold Master is always physical entity, not software as such. Some smart alec has made Gold Master redirect here when they should not have.
What happened to the Apple tech doc? Did they remove it from pubic availability? It should be in a web archive surely?
