I've been watching some of Autry's movies on Comcast. In a couple of them leftist revolutionaries are the bad guys, yet in this article I read he recorded a pro-labor song and some of the cowboy code sounds rather liberal. I am not certain about his politics. There is a 2013 article from Huffington Post, called Was Gene Autry a Radical? which examines his shifting political beliefs in detail. He apparently had affiliations with both Democratic and Republican political leaders, some of them with very different ideas.:

"Don Cusic, author of Gene Autry: His Life and Career, says that Autry grew up admiring Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman. In mid-life he became more conservative and supported Dwight D. During the 1980’s, Autry hosted a show on The Nashville Network on Sundays, which showed his movies. I checked the article and didn’t see a reference to it. Autry was an important broadcast station owner in the southwest, but the article barely mentions this, even in the "radio and television" section, except to mention that he sold his stations.
