Image, "The Equator in boreal winter" is incorrect
The image shows an equinox, not boreal winter. The lighting suggests the earth is viewed from the perspective of the sun, because it is always fully lit. The earth's axis of rotation is perpendicular to the line from earth to sun, giving all hemispheres equal lighting. For it to be boreal winter, the earth would need to be illuminated from the left side of the photo. I believe as shown it's the vernal (spring) equinox. equator and Equator
As previously mentioned, the topic of this article is the Earth's equator (the Equator), and not the equator as the intersection of a sphere's surface with the plane perpendicular to the sphere's axis of rotation and midway between the poles. This creates a mess on Wikidata, where the two dedicated items have resulted in a "spaghetti mix" of wikilinks.
All Wikipedia titles begin with an uppercase letter; therefore, keeping the title "Equator" under the assumption that the capital letter distinguishes it as THE Earth's equator is ineffective, as the title also technically covers the lowercase concept (and you use the lowercase "equator" in the first line !). Consequently, I think this article should be renamed Earth's equator or Terrestrial equator. Simon Villeneuve (talk) 18:02, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
