Perhaps information on these wooden 'extras' should be added

"To give extra protection, the crenels would sometimes be fitted with wooden flaps, roofs or shutters that could be opened or closed as required to give the desired mix of defence and attack options." Source: http://www.stronghold-knights.com/site/article205.html

Perhaps this type of information could be added to either this page, Merlon, Battlement, or wherever most appropriate. It's an interesting detail that is probably not often seen in ruins today as they were made of wood and have mostly disappeared. Nihola (talk) 22:11, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Improper word usages

This article contains confusing misuse of terms. For example, it classes the arrow slit, a military defensive structure, as a piece of "domestic architecture." The article further says, "The etymology of 'embrasure' expresses 'widening.'" But etymology expresses nothing; it is the study of the origin and evolution of a word's meaning. The term "embrasure" itself expresses widening; etymology, if someone provides it, would tell us why it expresses that.Jtcarpet (talk) 22:33, 6 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
