OOPS -- I may have made a GFDL mistake. The first quotient equation was taken from the current revision of Selector calculus. All the others are from the literature or are "obvious", even if they happen to be in that page. Arthur Rubin | (talk) 02:08, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
On Talk:Finite difference schemes, I'm proposing a reorganization of that article and finite difference. As a result, the latter article would contain the definitions of the forward, backward and centred difference, how they approximate the derivative, and perhaps higher-order approximations (basically the current contents of finite difference schemes). Since this is closely related with this article (as I see it, a finite difference is the result of evaluating a difference operator), I'm wondering whether it would be better to merge these topics here. I just redirected backward difference operator to this page. Then I noticed that backward difference redirects to a different page. That shouldn't happen. In some cases I might choose one that seems best and redirect both to that one. But in this case I've tentatively proposed merging those two target pages.
