I have a formula for contras computation and it is:

Do you know more about it ? This is the special case of black and white. I also have some table values from IEEE of contrasts for paper and LCD displays. Do you think this should suite the Contrast keyword? // Rogper 12:52, 29 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I also don't understand what these contrast values mean some computer magazine give in their lcd monitor tests, for example: 400:1 or 300:1. --Abdull 23:19, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The formula ${\displaystyle C={\frac {R_{bright}}{R_{dark}}}}$ determines the contrast ratio, which shows the ratio between bright and dark. An other form to express contrast is in form of contrast modulation (or Michelson Contrast). Sounds like a good idea. There are multiple topics here that aren't really related except by the plain-English meaning of "contrast" as things that are approximately opposite or at least very different from each other. OTOH, the telecom part seems like just an example of the visual part, so it could be moved into the visual section (or as a subsection on the stand-alone page for the visual section after a split). Agree. However, see "contrast effect" for a general definition of the behavior on which all of these multiple topics (with the exception of statistical contrast) are based. That is, visual contrast, linguistic contrast, and video contrast are all derivative concepts which are designed to play on human's general tendency to accentuate, attend to, or react to enhanced differences (contrasts) relative to more subtile differences. Maybe a distinction should be made between the act of contrasting (the verb) as is meant by statistical contrast which has no necessary implication of enhanced difference and the result of contrasting or the contrast obtained (the object) as is meant by visual, linguistic, video etc contrast.
