Hi, thanks for the notes. I added a link to superheat, added a link to "primary and secondary cooling", and tried clarifying the "molten steel qualities" sentence to make it more understandable. As for rat tails, see [1]. The coherency point is as simple as it sounds: it's the point at which the metal stops flowing because the front solidified. Let me know if I can help in any other way. Coring

In an old book (I no longer have) I seem to remember that the term "coring" was used to describe "shrinkage cavities" - is this use of the term still used? If so the article Coring should be given a see also link to here. Thanks.Sf5xeplus (talk) 17:43, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hrm, I did some research, but didn't come up with anything that supports that. That terminology would be very confusing because in casting the term "core" already has a specific meaning and in engineering it has the meaning of removing excess material from a casting or injection molding design.
