Complete Overhaul

Hello to anyone who reads this. I've completely overhauled the page, replacing poor references with standard ones in the field, attempting to make the flow towards the description of the codes more non-expert-friendly, elaborating on the naming confusion and providing references for this, and adding some history / examples in different sections.

I'm new to editing Wikipedia pages, so I would appreciate any tips or help anyone might have as I continue fixing this algebraic geometry code mess. Particularly, one of the biggest things I still need to do is move this page to one called "Algebraic geometry codes" (which is what these codes are), and fix links and references to this page that also call AG codes "Goppa codes". Replying to myself to say, I’ve made enough small edits that I was just able to move to the proper page name, “Algebraic geometry code”. Foobanana (talk) 20:46, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Relation of Goppa code and Algebraic geometry code

What is the relationship between the concepts of "Goppa code" and "Algebraic geometry code"? This article seems to indicate that perhaps at one time, they were synonyms, but perhaps there is a more precise subclass of "Algebraic geometry code" which is also known as "Goppa code". It would be nice to clarify the article, and also Wikidata at Goppa code (Q2981471) and binary Goppa code (Q4913867). Daask (talk) 18:50, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
