Sominot , officially the Municipality of Sominot (Cebuano : Lungsod sa Sominot ; Subanen : Benwa Sominot ; Chavacano : Municipalidad de Sominot ; Tagalog : Bayan ng Sominot ), is a municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Sur , Philippines . According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 19,061 people.[ 3]
The town was created in 1980 as Don Mariano Marcos , after then-President Ferdinand Marcos ' father Mariano Marcos , and was composed of barangays previously part of the municipalities of Dumingag , Mahayag , Midsalip , Ramon Magsaysay , and Tukuran .[ 5] It was renamed to its present name in 1988.[ 6]
