Young Alec befriends a Hisuian Zorua after falling down a cliffside. The Zorua helps him heal his injuries using a medicinal plant, and the two work together to climb back up. However, when Alec returns to his father, he's surprised at his father's reaction upon seeing the little Pokémon.
Alec and the town's guardsmen venture in the forest to investigate strange happenings. Alec hopes to reconnect with the Hisuian Zorua he befriended despite his father's wishes, and aims to find a way to allow humans and Pokémon to learn to live together in the Hisui region.
