Mario Vittorio "Marvey" A. Mariño (born October 3, 1970) is a Filipino politician currently serving as the representative of Batangas' 5th congressional district in the House of Representatives of the Philippines. He first assumed office in 2016 and has since been an active figure in national politics. In addition to his legislative duties, Mariño has held the position of Chairperson of the House Committee on Government Reorganization since 2019, where he has played a crucial role in streamlining government operations.
Career
Local
In 2007, he started his career elected as a councilor for Batangas City, leaving in 2010 after running for the provincial board elections. He eventually was elected and was re-elected again in 2013,[1] with the political party Nationalist People's Coalition.[2]
Congressman
In 2016, the Batangas's 5th congressional district was created, with Marino being elected a year later, winning the five-way race including congressman Hernando Perez.[1] He ran with the Liberal Party of the Philippines, eventually gaining 69,577 votes.[3] He co-authored the Maharlika Investment Corporation bill, and he voted in favor to the death penalty bill. He gained a vote-buying complaint in the 2016 elections.[1] During his tenure, he offered financial and medical assistance to residents.[4] He also became the chairman of the House Committee on Civil Service and Professional Regulation.[5]
In the 2019 elections, he ran again, being re-elected with 132,286 votes with the Liberal Party as a lone candidate.[6]
In the 2022 elections, he switched parties, joining the Nacionalista Party. He ran against Carlito Bisa of the Ang Kapatiran party. He won with 156,530 votes or 91.98% of the votes.[7] During his tenure, he was picked as the chairman for the House Committee on Trade and Industry.[8]
