John Joseph McDermott (born March 19, 1963) is an American priest of the Catholic Church who serves as bishop for the Diocese of Burlington. He previously served as the Diocesan Administrator.[1]
McDermott holds a master's degree in divinity and theology from Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Maryland,[3] and a degree in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America.[2] He was Director of the Catholic Center at the University of Vermont-Burlington from 2001 to 2015.[1][5]
Episcopal career
Pope Francis appointed McDermott bishop for the Diocese of Burlington on May 6, 2024.[6][7] On July 15, 2024, McDermott was consecrated as a bishop.
