Around 1992 IGLF was involved in clashes with the dominant Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF). During this period IGLF sabotaged the Addis Ababa - Djibouti Railway.

In 1993 its president was Mohamoud Dirir Gheddi.[2]
