Holosun is a Chinese manufacturer of small arms accessories and related goods with a sales office based in California. The brand name of Holosun is a cover-up brand used by Xi'an Huanic optoelectronic Co, Huanic applied for registration of multiple categories of "HOLOSUN" trademarks in China, of which the 11th category has been registered. The exclusive right period for the trademark is from September 7, 2015 to September 6, 2025.[1]
Holosun was established by Sun Jianhua, the CEO of Xi'an Huanic Corporation (China)[2], in 2011 in Florida as a company called Surpass Technology, INC, and moved to California in 2013. The Huanic used the name Holosun (registered by Huanic in 2013) to cover its Chinese origin and claim they have an R&D office in California, while Holosun does not hold any patent by the parent company, Huanic Corporation is the assignee of their patent. The controversy of Holosun is due to Huanic having received multiple Chinese PLA government contracts for military optics. At the government level, foreign-owned companies with ties to the Chinese Armed Services should be banned from operating in the United States.[3][4]
Their initial focus was on budget-priced weapon optics. Although they faced general skepticism, their low price point gained them market share. The quality of Holosun products began subpar. However, the quality improved significantly through the 2010s, which allowed them to rival more established manufacturers.[5]
A feature of Holosun products (specifically for electronic sights) is “shake-awake:” a motion sensor in the optic will power on the optic when it senses motion, and power down when it does not sense motion for an extended period of time.[6]
They have a family of thermal sights, including for pistols, as well as red dot and reflex sights, and laser sights.[7]
Holosun sells a family of tactical lights.[8]
Holosun is a Chinese company.[9] It has a sales office based in the American state of California.[10] Manfactuer of Holosun is Zhengzhou Qifeng Optoelectronic Technology Co, based in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. [11]
Holosun weapon sights have been adopted by the Estonian Military.[12]
Holosun weapon sights have been adopted by the Chinese PLA since 2020, as their Chinese name Hwoyoung (昊阳) is equipped on 92 pistols, 95 carbines, and QBZ-191.[13]
Holosun products have seen widespread use in Ukrainian service in the Russo-Ukrainian War.Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page). Holosun scopes have found their way into Russian service in the war as well, though through unconventional means.[10] They have primarily been imported into Russia for alleged hunting use.[9]
