Unstop (formerly Dare2Compete) is an Indian online platform that connects students, graduates, and early-career professionals with companies through competitions, hackathons, quizzes, online assessments, internships, and job listings.[1][2] It is owned and operated by Flive Consulting Private Limited and is headquartered in New Delhi, India.
The platform was founded by Ankit Aggarwal in 2017 under the name Dare2Compete and rebranded to Unstop in May 2022.[3]
Ankit Aggarwal, an engineer and MBA graduate, started a blog during his college years to aggregate information about competitions, events, and opportunities for students, addressing the difficulty of tracking opportunities scattered across multiple websites.[4] Prior to founding the platform, he worked at Sapient, Deloitte, Teach For India, and Salesforce, and received a scholarship to attend a leadership programme at Harvard Business School.[5]
The platform was formally launched in 2017 under the name Dare2Compete, starting with a small team. It initially operated as a listing platform where organisers could post events, competitions, and challenges to reach a wider student audience.[6][1]
In May 2022, the company rebranded from Dare2Compete to Unstop, reflecting a strategic expansion beyond competitions to include jobs, internships, courses, mentorship, and hiring tools.[3]
In early 2023, Unstop appeared on Shark Tank India Season 2, a business reality television series in which entrepreneurs pitch to a panel of investors. Founder Ankit Aggarwal initially sought ₹1 crore for 1% equity in the company.[7]
During the episode, Amit Jain, co-founder and CEO of CarDekho Group, made an offer of ₹5 crore for 10% equity, reported at the time as the largest individual offer made in the programme's history. Following further negotiations, four sharks — Amit Jain, Anupam Mittal (founder and CEO of Shaadi.com), Aman Gupta (co-founder and CMO of boAt), and Namita Thapar (Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals) — collectively agreed to invest ₹2 crore for 4% equity in the company.[7]
In August 2023, Unstop secured approximately US$5 million in its first institutional funding round. The round was led by Japan-based firm Mynavi, with participation from Coursera, Venture Catalysts, and 9Unicorns, among other investors.[8]
Unstop provides access to competitions, hackathons, assessments, internships, and job listings for students and early-career professionals. According to The Economic Times, the platform has used cloud technology to support community engagement and hiring activities at scale.[9] The Financial Express has described the platform as redefining early career hiring for young Indians through gamified challenges and skill-based assessments.[2]
Inc42 has described the platform as combining elements of professional networking and job discovery for India's student population.[6] The Times of India has referenced Unstop in the context of research on skill gaps between graduates and employer expectations.[10]
In March 2026, Unstop published the Unstop Talent Report 2026, subtitled Era of Human + AI: Decoding India's Talent Landscape. The report was based on a survey conducted between January and February 2026, covering responses from over 37,000 students and 500 HR leaders across industries.[11]
Key findings included: 78% of organisations run internship programmes but only 16% convert more than 80% of interns into full-time roles; over 90% of Gen Z professionals were willing to accept lower compensation in exchange for stronger learning opportunities; 64% of recruiters now prioritise skills in artificial intelligence, data, and cloud computing over academic degrees; and only 36% of HR leaders felt fully prepared to hire and manage Gen Z talent.[11]
Business Standard further reported that while 73% of undergraduate students expected salaries above ₹5 lakh per annum, only 40% were able to secure offers at that level, and that 85% of engineering students and 84% of undergraduate students remained without job offers despite active hiring activity.[12]
