Universal Migrator is a software platform designed for data and document migrations, primarily used by technology consultants serving law firms. It enables the extraction (backup) of data and documents from over 170 source systems into a universal intermediate schema before mapping and importing (restoring) them into target platforms.

Universal Migrator was founded by Tony Valenti, a serial technology entrepreneur based in Papillion, Nebraska. The platform gained significant attention in the legal technology community after winning first place in the Startup Alley pitch competition at the 2023 ABA TECHSHOW. ^[1]

It continues to expand its connector library, with updates adding support for additional systems every month.

Universal Migrator operates on a hub-and-spoke model:

Extraction (Backup): It pulls data and documents from a wide variety of legacy, on-premise, and cloud-based practice management, document management, CRM, and accounting systems. Intermediate Schema: Data is normalized into a universal database format, simplifying complex transformations. Import (Restore): Prebuilt mappings push the data into destination systems with minimal custom scripting required.

Key capabilities include support for both structured data (e.g., matters, contacts, time entries) and unstructured documents, with tools for handling naming conventions, deduplication, and metadata preservation.
