The Red Mask is a 2025 American horror thriller film starring Helena Howard, Inanna Sarkis, Jake Abel, and Kelli Garner. Directed by Ritesh Gupta and written by Samantha Gurash and Patrick Robert Young, the film premiered at Frightfest on August 23, 2025.

Premise

Allina Green, an outspoken screenwriter, is hired to reboot a classic 1980s horror franchise. After facing online backlash from fans, she and her fiancée retreat to a secluded Airbnb to develop the script through immersive role-play, but their creative process turns deadly when two intruders arrive.[2]

Production

The Red Mask was produced by Atit Shah for Create Entertainment alongside Aimee Schoof and Isen Robbins for Intrinsic Value Films. The screenplay was written by Samantha Gurash and Patrick Robert Young. Helena Howard, Inanna Sarkis, Jake Abel, and Kelli Garner were cast in the lead roles. The film is Ritesh Gupta's directorial feature film debut, who previously directed commercials for major brands.[3][2] Principal photography took place in Los Angeles in late 2024.[2]

Release

The Red Mask had its world premiere at London's FrightFest on August 23, 2025.[3][1] The North American premiere took place at Screamfest LA at the TCL Chinese Theatre on October 11, 2025.[3][4] On October 19 it was shown at the Nightmares Film Festival.[5] In February 2026, sales agent Stoic acquired worldwide sales rights and planned to sale at the Berlin International Film Festival.[3]

Anton Bitel of SciFiNow gave it a score of four out of five.[6]
