A storefront crash is a type of vehicle-into-building crash where a car hits a store. More than 100 storefront crashes happen per day. 46% of them result in injury, 8% in death, as of 2022.[1]
Some common causes for storefront crashes are pedal errors, DUI, and medical issues[1][2], while bad parking lot design, poor sign usage and lighting, and lack of prevention are contributing factors as well.[2][3] Some ways to prevent them include bollards or other street infrastructure such as concrete planters or benches, reinforced curbs, and redesigning parking lots.[3][4][5]
