Steven Favreau is an American interior designer and writer. He is the founder of Favreau Design, an interior design firm with offices in San Francisco and Boston. Before entering interior design, he worked as a stage performer, a cruise director, and an arts marketing executive.[1]
Early life and education
Favreau studied theater and dance at the Boston Conservatory and illustration and interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology.[1]
Performing and administrative career
Favreau performed in A Chorus Line in New York and later worked as a soloist at the Moulin Rouge in Paris.[2]
He subsequently performed aboard cruise ships and became a cruise director for American Hawaii Cruises.[1]
Favreau later worked in arts administration, marketing, and fundraising, including as marketing director for the American Musical Theatre of San Jose.[3]
Interior design
Favreau founded Favreau Design, which operates in San Francisco and Boston. His interiors combine contemporary furnishings with antiques and historic architectural references, and make frequent use of strong color and pattern.[1][4]
In 2013, the San Francisco Chronicle profiled Favreau's residential work in California and New England, including projects in Pacific Heights and Sonoma County.[1]
His Vermont residence appeared on the cover of the November–December 2013 issue of Design New England.[5]
New England Home profiled Favreau and his Boston residence in 2017, describing his adaptation of an industrial loft and his use of furnishings from varied periods and price points.[6]
In 2019, House Beautiful published a feature on a condominium he designed in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood, discussing his combination of color, pattern, contemporary furnishings, and historic architectural elements.[4]
Favreau designed the library for the Junior League of Boston's 2016 Show House at the Nathaniel Allen House in West Newton, Massachusetts. The Boston Globe included the room in its coverage of the event.[7]
Television
Favreau competed on HGTV's The White Room Challenge and was twice a semifinalist for HGTV Design Star.[8]
Writing
Favreau writes theater reviews and features for BroadwayWorld.[9]
His writing has also appeared in The Gay & Lesbian Review. [10]
