Scean's Outpost, Inc is a US non-profit organization that provides services for unhoused people in Pensacola, FL..^[1][2]

In March 2013, Jason King started Sean's Outpost to provide meals to the unhoused residents in Pensacola, FL, starting with about 50 meals once per week, to replace the community's need following the loss of funding to another charity in the city.^[3][4]. To date, Sean's Outpost has served hundreds of thousands of meals. ^[5][2][6]

The namesake of Sean's Outpost is Sean Dugas, King's best friend, who was murdered in September 2012.^{[3][7][8][9][4]}

Sean's Outpost expenses were primarily met by bitcoin donations. In their first year, they received 733 bitcoins, over 60% of which were donated by Jason King, his wife Leslie King, and other members of the board. By November 2014, they had raised over 943 BTC ($328,013.12 in Nov 2014).^[10][11][2]

In 2013, Sean's Outpost opened a 9-acre Homeless shelter in Pensacola, Florida.^[12]. The property's $600 mortgage was paid-for directly and exclusively with bitcoin. ^[13][5][14]

In March 2014, Escambia County attempted to shut down Satoshi Forest, claiming that the tents required building permits. The charges were dropped the following month. The attorney for Scean's Outpost said that the county's actions were not legal, and that they were intentionally targeting resources for the local unhoused population.

We argued that the county was simply objecting to the use of the property for homeless persons and that there was no provision in the code that required you to get permission to have someone spend the night on your property.^[6]

In May 2014, Satoshi Forest was damaged by a flood, and the community donated 54.6 BTC and 24.8 LTC (totaling $23872.50 USD)^[15]

In 2015, Escambia County denied Satoshi Forest a permit to allow free camping on their privately-owned property, claiming that Satoshi Forest didn't meet regulations requiring an "all-weather road for the maintenance of the site’s portable toilets". Sean's Outpost appealed the decision, and the decision was overturned by a judge in 2017, stating that the county's objections cited falsified regulations.^{[16][17][18][19][4]}

In 2024, Satoshi Forest had an influx of residents when the government evicted a nearby Beggs Lane encampment on a superfund site that had been contaminated by Escambia Wood Treating Company, which was causing numerous lethal health effects on the unhoused population living there.^[20]

Sean's Outpost operates the Bitcoin Homeless Outreach Center (BITHOC), which is a thrift shop, storage facility, food pantry^[21]

In 2014, King ran 3,200 miles across the United States from Miami, FL to San Francisco, CA to raise bitcoin donations for Sean's Outpost.

The whole point of the run [was] to raise awareness for homelessness and bitcoin,” King said. “I’m tired of the homeless situation in America, and if you do something stupid like run across the country, you might get the attention of a couple of people along the way.^[22]

King started his Bitcoin Across America run at the North American Bitcoin Conference in Miami on January 26, 2014, and he finished 132 days later in San Francisco on June 07, 2014.^[23]

Bitcoin Across America raised about 200 BTC ($91,466) for Sean's Outpost. King ran about 32 miles per day, ate about 10,000 calories per day, and lost 72 pounds.^[24]

In 2019, King ran across the United States again, this time to Santa Monica, LA. Proceeds from the run's fundraising went to Satoshi Forest.^{[citation needed]}
