Draft:Scrite

Scrite is an open-source screenwriting application developed by VCreate Logic Pvt Ltd, a company based in Bengaluru, India. It is a desktop application available on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

History

Scrite was first released as a beta version in 2020 by a Bengaluru-based company.[1] In 2025, version 1.0 was officially launched. Since version 1.0, Scrite operates on a freemium model, offering a 30-day free trial followed by subscription options.[2]

Features

Scrite supports standard screenplay formatting including scene headings, action lines, dialogue, and transitions, following industry-standard screenplay structure.[3] Unlike most screenwriting applications which are designed primarily for English-language scripts, Scrite was built with native support for Indian language screenwriting. At launch, it supported 11 Indian languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, and Hindi, allowing writers to compose scripts entirely in their native language rather than transliterating into English. In 2026, support was extended to major international languages.

Scrite functions as an offline desktop application and does not require a cloud connection, making it suitable for writers in areas with limited or unreliable internet access. It includes tools for story structure and scene planning in addition to screenplay formatting.
