Ronald Raphoon

Ron Raphoon is an American pipeline coatings inspector, consultant, and business executive. He is the founder and Managing Member of Raphoon LLC, a Houston-area company specializing in pipeline coating inspection, consulting, and training. He has worked in the oil and gas pipeline industry for more than 25 years and has participated in standards development related to pipeline coatings through his involvement with AMPP and ISO.[1]

Career

Raphoon has held management and technical roles in the pipeline industry for more than 25 years:

  • Raphoon LLC (2019–present): Managing Member, focusing on coatings inspection, consulting, and training.[1]
  • CSNRI Composites (2015–2019): Director of Pipeline Development, a period during which composite repair products such as Scar-Guard were introduced.[2]
  • Pipe & Tube Supplies, Inc. (2014–2015): Sales Manager for surplus pipe.[2]
  • Commercial Coating Services International (2007–2014): General Manager and Branch Manager, overseeing field services and operations in California.[2]

Industry involvement

Raphoon has been active in NACE International and, later, AMPP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance) for over 15 years.[2] He currently chairs the AMPP SC-03 Standards Committee on Buried and Submerged Coatings, which coordinates the development of international standards for pipeline coatings and corrosion prevention. He has also contributed to ISO committees on coating integrity and has presented technical papers at AMPP annual conferences, including in 2022.[3]

Innovations

Raphoon worked as a consultant with Denso North America on the development of Bore-Wrap, a resin-impregnated composite wrap designed for abrasion and impact resistance in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) applications.[4] He is listed as an inventor on U.S. Patent No. 12228235-B1, related to pipeline repair and protective technologies.[5]
