Rogervoice is a French company that develops telephone accessibility services for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. It was founded by Olivier Jeannel and developed a mobile application for transcribing telephone conversations in real time.[1][2]
Rogervoice was founded by Olivier Jeannel, who became deaf at the age of two. Jeannel grew up in California before moving to France. Before founding Rogervoice, he studied at the University of California, Berkeley and Sciences Po and worked at Orange.[3][4]
In 2014, Rogervoice used a crowdfunding campaign to finance development of its mobile application. TechCrunch reported that the application was intended to transcribe speech during telephone calls and allow users to respond using speech or text-to-speech technology.[1] Forbes also covered the project in 2014, describing its use of automatic speech recognition for telephone conversations.[2]
The company was subsequently covered by CBC Radio One's technology programme Spark.[5]
In December 2015, Le Figaro reported on Rogervoice's application and its use of real-time speech transcription for telephone calls.[6]
Rogervoice later became involved in telecommunications relay services in France. In 2018, the Fédération Française des Télécoms announced that a national interpersonal telecommunications service for deaf, hard-of-hearing, deafblind and aphasic users would be available through the Rogervoice application.[7]
In January 2024, the Federal Communications Commission granted Rogervoice conditional certification to provide Internet Protocol Captioned Telephone Service in the United States.[8] The FCC extended the conditional certification in January 2026.[9]
