Riyp (Riyp (Pty) Ltd) is a South African fresh produce export company founded in December 2015 and headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa.[1] The company exports fresh fruit and vegetables to 40 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Indian Ocean Islands.[2]
Riyp was founded on 8 December 2015 by Uzair Essack, a South African entrepreneur and Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 alumnus.[3] The company was established to connect South African farmers with global buyers across emerging and developed markets.[4]
In 2019, Riyp founder Uzair Essack was awarded the Medium Business Entrepreneur of the Year award at the South Africa Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.[5]
In 2021, Riyp was featured on CNN's Marketplace Africa programme, highlighting the company's expansion beyond citrus into vegetables including sweet potatoes.[6]
In 2022, Riyp was cited in reporting on the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on South African agricultural export markets, with the company noting increased demand from farmers seeking alternative destinations for their produce.[7]
Riyp operates three export brands: Riyp, Bloo Moon and Cherry Pop.[8] The company sources produce directly from farmers across the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal provinces of South Africa.
