Pip Atkinson (born 13 December 1964) is a former England and Great Britain rugby union player. She is one of 267 current and former England players to have a handmade rose bearing their name created as part of the "Trail of Roses" exhibition at the London Eye to honour England's female rugby players.[1]
Early Life and Education
Atkinson was born in Hong Kong to British parents. The family moved to the UK when Pip was three.
Playing Career
Atkinson played in Great Britain's first official women's international rugby union match in 1986,[2] an 8-14 loss to France, and a year later was part of the England team that beat Wales in the first official women's international rugby match[3] for either nation, scoring a hat-trick.
In 1996, she coached and captained the Clifton Ladies RFC side that won the National Sevens tournament in Maidenhead, and shortly afterwards became coach and captain of the England sevens side that participated in the inaugural women's Hong Kong Sevens tournament in 1997[4][3]
She went on to represent England in the 1998 Women's Rugby World Cup[5][a], after which she decided to retire.
