TitlePresident and chief executive officer

Peter Mallouk is an American financial adviser, businessman, author, and sports-franchise investor. He is the president and chief executive officer of Creative Planning, a wealth-management firm headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, and is its majority owner.[1][2] Mallouk took over Creative Planning in 2004, when the firm served several dozen clients. It reported approximately $700 billion in assets under management or advisement as of December 31, 2025.[2][1] Forbes estimated his net worth at $16.1 billion in July 2026.[3]

Mallouk owns more than 80 percent of the equity in Sporting Kansas City, although the Illig family retained control of the club after the transaction that increased his stake.[4] He and his wife, Veronica Mallouk, are minority owners of the Kansas City Royals.[5] Mallouk has written four books about personal finance and investing, two of them with Tony Robbins.[2]

Early life and education

Mallouk was raised in Kansas. His parents were immigrants from Egypt; his father was a physician and his mother was a teacher.[2][5] While attending the University of Kansas, he operated a chain of record stores.[2]

Mallouk graduated from the University of Kansas in 1993 with four undergraduate majors, including business administration and economics. In 1996, he earned both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from the university.[6][5]

Career

After completing graduate school, Mallouk worked as an estate-planning attorney, advising physicians and clients referred by financial advisers on wills and trusts.[2] He took over Creative Planning in 2004 from one of the financial advisers for whom he had performed legal work. At the time, the firm's clients numbered in the dozens and it managed less than $100 million.[2][7]

The firm's model combined investment management with financial, tax, estate, and legal planning. Creative Planning initially expanded primarily through organic growth and made its first significant acquisition in 2019.[2][5] In 2020, private-equity firm General Atlantic acquired a minority interest in Creative Planning, while Mallouk retained control of more than 80 percent of its equity.[5]

In 2023, Creative Planning acquired Goldman Sachs' Personal Financial Management business, which had approximately $29 billion in assets and several hundred advisers.[5][7] In September 2024, TPG Inc. acquired a substantial minority interest in Creative Planning.[8] Bloomberg News reported that the transaction valued the company at $16 billion, including debt, and that Mallouk remained its majority owner.[2] Creative Planning reported approximately $700 billion in assets under management or advisement at the end of 2025.[1]

SEC settlement

In September 2018, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced settlements with Creative Planning and Mallouk. The SEC found that the firm had disseminated prohibited client testimonials in radio advertisements, had not adequately monitored live and prerecorded advertisements, and had not retained copies of all the advertisements as required by its policies. The agency also found that Mallouk had failed to report securities holdings and transactions in three brokerage accounts maintained for the benefit of his family and over which he exercised control.[9][10]

Without admitting or denying the SEC's findings, Creative Planning consented to a censure, a cease-and-desist order, and a civil penalty of $200,000. Mallouk consented to a cease-and-desist order and a civil penalty of $50,000.[10]

Sports ownership

In 2019, Mallouk and his wife, Veronica, joined the Kansas City Royals' ownership group as minority investors.[5]

Mallouk acquired an initial interest in Sporting Kansas City in 2022. A transaction that closed in December 2025 increased his holding to more than 80 percent of the club's equity and valued the franchise at $700 million. Despite Mallouk's majority equity position, the Illig family retained control of the club, and Cliff Illig continued as its governor on the Major League Soccer board.[4]

Philanthropy and personal life

He also founded Pathway Financial Education, which provides financial education to teenagers, adults, and business owners in under-resourced communities.[6]

Mallouk is married to Veronica Mallouk. They have three children.[2][5]
