Netcore Unbxd is a privately held software company that provides search and product discovery software for ecommerce retailers. Originally founded as Unbxd in October 2011 by Pavan Sondur and Prashant Kumar in Bengaluru, India,[1] the company was acquired by Indian technology firm Netcore Cloud in 2022.[2]
Unbxd was founded in October 2011 by Pavan Sondur and Prashant Kumar in Bengaluru, India.[1] Sondur, who served as chief executive officer, conceived the company after observing that finding products on ecommerce websites was harder than searching on general web search engines.[3][4]
The company received seed funding from Indian Angel Network before its first institutional round.[1] In 2013, it raised $2 million in a Series A funding round led by IDG Ventures India and Inventus Capital Partners.[1][5] By 2014, the company's clients included Indian ecommerce retailers such as Caratlane, Zansaar, Trendin, and Redmart, and the founders were planning to expand operations into the United States and Asia-Pacific markets.[4]
In 2016, Unbxd raised an undisclosed Series B round from existing investors including IDG Ventures, Inventus Capital Partners, and Indian Angel Network, with Nirvana Venture Advisors also participating.[3]
In June 2017, the company raised $12.5 million in a Series C funding round led by Eight Roads Ventures, the investment arm of Fidelity International. Existing investors IDG Ventures, Inventus Capital Partners, and Nirvana Ventures participated, along with Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan.[6][7]
In March 2022, Netcore Cloud acquired a 90% stake in Unbxd for approximately $100 million in an all-cash transaction.[2][8][9][10] Following the transaction, Unbxd's founders and management continued to lead the company,[8] which subsequently began operating under the Netcore Unbxd brand.
In July 2024, technology publication CMS Critic reviewed the inaugural Gartner Magic Quadrant for Search and Product Discovery, in which the company was included among the Leaders quadrant vendors.[11]
The company began with ecommerce site search software and later expanded its offering to include agentic commerce, product recommendations, browsing and category navigation, visual search, personalization, and AI agents for merchandising controls.[4][11] The company also offers a conversational shopping assistant, referred to as the Shopping Agent, which uses natural language to guide shoppers through product selection.[12] The platform integrates with ecommerce software including Shopify, BigCommerce, and Magento.[12]
