MotusAcademy is an international association focused on continuing education, knowledge-sharing, and professional networking related to rehabilitation technology and rehabilitation robotics.[1][2] Coverage at launch described the association as being based in Zurich, Switzerland, and positioned around educational resources and seminars to support the adoption of rehabilitative and assistive technologies.[1]

History

MotusAcademy was reported as having been formally launched in May 2022, with Professor Robert Riener identified as its president and Professor José Pons as vice president at the launch event.[1] In January 2023, Neuro Rehab Times reported that MotusAcademy expanded into Asia-Pacific with a base in Singapore, alongside plans to deliver workshops and courses in the region.[3]

Activities

MotusAcademy has been described as providing educational resources and professional development opportunities related to rehabilitation robotics and supporting technologies, aimed at clinicians and other rehabilitation stakeholders.[1][2] It has also been listed as a project partner in a Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) initiative to develop a continuing-education MOOC for clinicians focused on rehabilitation technology and clinical adoption considerations.[4]

Partnerships and collaborations

In 2022, MotusAcademy and the MiNT Academy (Hobbs Rehabilitation, UK) announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening exchange and education related to neurotechnology and rehabilitation practice.[5][6] In 2023, Nagoya University reported signing an agreement with MotusAcademy related to education and research themes in rehabilitation technology (as described in the university announcement).[7]

Publications

At launch, MotusAcademy was reported as planning an official publication titled the Journal of Rehabilitation Methods and Technologies (JRMT).[1] JRMT is published by Emerald Publishing in partnership with MotusAcademy, according to the publisher’s journal information pages.[8][9]

Selected events

Singapore’s Tourism Board described RehabWeek 2023 (held in Singapore) as being supported by multiple professional societies, listing MotusAcademy among them in the event footnotes.[10]
