Motto is a Dutch sports technology company that develops software for live streaming and over-the-top (OTT) video services for sports organisations. Its platform is used to manage live and on-demand video, branded streaming services and video distribution for sports federations, leagues, clubs and other sports rights holders.[1]

Motto provides its technology as software as a service and uses a usage-based commercial model for video streaming, transcoding, storage and content delivery.[2] The platform includes tools for subscriptions, pay-per-view, advertising and sponsorship, as well as distribution to web, mobile and connected television applications.[1]

History

Motto Netherlands B.V., the company's Dutch operating entity, was registered in the Netherlands in 2024. It is owned by Motto Holding B.V.[3]

The company has focused on the use of cloud infrastructure and automation in sports broadcasting. Its chief executive, Patrick Plaatje, participated in an artificial-intelligence showcase organised by Studio Automated during the 2024 International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam, discussing the application of artificial intelligence to sports broadcasting.[4]

Motto has also worked with Google Cloud on the application of generative artificial intelligence to its technology. In 2025, Google Cloud featured Motto and Plaatje in a "Spark Session" concerning the use of Gemini and Google Cloud artificial-intelligence services to automate workflows and process data within sports technology applications.[5]

Technology

Motto's platform combines live-video ingest, transcoding, content delivery and OTT publishing within a single software environment. According to the company's technical documentation, its live-streaming infrastructure is designed for sports broadcasting and supports multiple video sources and profiles, low-latency streaming, video protection and simulcasting to third-party destinations.[6]

The company's OTT software allows sports organisations to create branded streaming services for web browsers, mobile devices and connected televisions. Content can be distributed as free video or monetised through subscriptions and individual pay-per-view purchases.[2]

Motto describes its commercial model as pay-as-you-go, with customers charged according to their use of services including streaming, transcoding, storage and content delivery network traffic.[2]

Sports streaming projects

In December 2025, the Northern Ireland Football League launched NIFL TV, an in-house streaming service initially used to broadcast four NIFL Premiership matches on Boxing Day. The launch was reported by the Belfast Telegraph and announced by the league as its first league-operated streaming service.[7][8]

Motto subsequently identified its platform as the streaming and OTT technology used for the NIFL TV deployment.[9]
