Mid-levels Central (Chinese: 中半山) is a popular name for a traditional luxurious mansion area in Hong Kong and one of the four Mid-levels areas on Hong Kong Island. It is located above Hong Kong Park and Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens.[1] It is under the jurisdiction of the Central and Western District.

名稱問題

Some people mistakenly refer to Mid-Levels Central as "Mid-Levels of Central". In fact, Mid-Levels Central does not include the entire Mid-Levels Central, but only the area directly above Cotton Tree Drive/Garden Road, which is above Hong Kong Park and Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens.[1] Therefore, some people refer Mid-Levels Central as Mid-Levels Admiralty (金鐘半山). Kennedy Road in Wan Chai is also called Mid-Levels Wan Chai (灣仔半山), just like Stubbs Road in Mid-Levels East.

Currently, many people also list Mid-Levels West properties as Mid-Levels Central in residential property applications to attract customers (for example, Caine Road, Mid-Levels Central, but Caine Road is actually a road in Mid-Levels West, not Mid-Levels Central).

Geography

Located south of Admiralty, north of Victoria Peak and Bowen Hill, bordered by Mid-Levels East to the east and Mid-Levels West to the west. Most roads are built along the mountainside, with an elevation ranging from approximately 57 meters to 280 meters.

The map shows the junction of Mid-Levels Central and Mid-Levels West on Robinson Road; to the left: Raimondi College belongs to Mid-Levels West, and to the right: The Albany belongs to Mid-Levels Central.[2]
Looking from Mid-Levels West towards Mid-Levels Central, the pink building in the upper left is The Albany, and the Raimondi College is in the lower left corner.

Current Situation

Mid-Levels Central is one of the wealthiest areas in Hong Kong, with a median monthly household income of HK$104,160.[3] Most units have a usable area of over 1,000 square feet, and many have over 2,000 square feet. Only St. Louis Mansion offers smaller units of 300-400 square feet. Privately built detached houses are located near The Peak on Magazine Gap Road andBowen Road.

Moreover, Mid-Levels Central is high up and located below the fog line, so it offers views of Victoria Harbour most of the time,[4] which is why many large units are priced comparable to those in the Victoria Peak area.

Mid-Levels Central is very popular with the wealthy, and its residents are either rich or noble, including Tung Chee-hwa, Regina Ip, and Lee Shau-kee. Lee Shau-kee's residence, Eva Court (惠苑), is a three-story duplex unit with a sky garden, with a total usable area of 12,050 square feet[5][6], which is the largest stratified residential unit in Hong Kong.
