Maximilian "Max" Karhan (born 14 April 2008) is a Czech racing driver who is currently competing in the 2025 Formula 4 CEZ Championship.

Career

Karting

Karhan began karting at the age of six and came eleventh in the 2022 German Karting Championship in the OK Junior class. In 2023 he moved up to the OK, where he came 21st in the WSK Champions Cup and 48th in the CIK-FIA European Championship.[1][2]

Formula 4

2023

In 2023, he made his debut in single-seaters in the fourth round of the 2023 Formula 4 CEZ Championship for Jenzer Motorsport. He competed in the final three rounds of the season and scored no podiums but achieved a best result of fifth place at the second race of the final round at Balaton Park Circuit. Karhan finished the championship in 7th with 56 points.[3][4]

2024

He continued his partnership with Jenzer Motorsport in the 2024 season as he contested a full season of the 2024 Formula 4 CEZ Championship with them.[5] In the second race of the first round at Balaton Park Circuit, he got podium points and was classified as a podium finisher but only came in fourth due to the race winner Ethan Ischer, – the 2023 Formula 4 CEZ Champion – being entered as a guest driver, so he was ineligible for points.[6]

The second round of his campaign at the Red Bull Ring was the worst round of the year, as it was the only round of the season where he came out with no points, retiring from the first race, coming thirteenth in the second race and finishing twelfth in the third race.[7] Karhan achieved his first on-track podium and win in the third race of the third round at the Slovakia Ring after two fourth places in the first two races of the round. Karhan would also have success in the fifth round of the series at Autodrom Most, coming second and third in the first two races and bagging his second win in racing in the third race.[7]

Following his win at Most, Karhan achieved two more wins at the penultimate round of the season Brno Circuit, but his three-win streak came to a halt in the third race where he finished fourth.[8][9] In the final round of the season at the Salzburgring, he came third in the first race and second in the second and third races. Karhan ended the championship in third place with four wins, three fastest laps, ten podiums and 242 points.[7]

At the end of the year, he was selected to be apart of Team Czech Republic in the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games Formula 4 Cup, where he retired from the main race after a collision.[10][11]

2025

With Jenzer Motorsport, he contested the Formula 4 CEZ Championship again for the 2025 season. At the first two rounds in the Red Bull Ring, he only achieved one podium – a third place – in the final race of the second round. Karhan got his only wins of the year in the first two races of the next round at the Salzburgring and came second in the third race.

In the next half of the season, he collected a podium in each race, getting four third places – two at Autodrom Most and two at the Slovakia Ring – and six second places, with three of them being achieved in all the races of the final round at Brno Circuit. He ended the championship in second place with two wins, thirteen podiums, 285 points and nine points behind champion Gino Trappa.

He is the son of Lukáš Karhan, who founded and runs a service facility for Corvette, Lukamotorsport.cz.[13]
