Marz23 (Chinese: 阿夜; birth name Lin Chih-jung, 林志融) is a Taiwanese singer, songwriter and musician. He is the vocalist of the Taiwanese rock band TRASH and also releases solo material under the name Marz23. His solo albums 23 (2020) and Not So Far Away (不遠處) (2023) have received media coverage in Taiwan, and he was nominated for Best Mandarin Male Singer at the 35th Golden Melody Awards.[1][2][3]
According to an interview with Vogue Taiwan, Marz23 was born in 1991 and is the son of Taiwanese entertainers Andy (安迪) and A-e (阿娥).[1] He first appeared on Taiwanese television as a teenager on the variety show Super Lucky (麻辣天后宮), and briefly worked in modelling and advertising before focusing on music.[1]
Around 2009, Lin formed the rock band TRASH and became its vocalist under the stage name A-ye (阿夜).[1] TRASH have been active at major Taiwanese music festivals and have performed in Taiwan and overseas.[4]
TRASH have been repeatedly nominated at the Golden Melody Awards, and in 2025 they won the award for Best Band at the 36th Golden Melody Awards for the album 幸福的末班車 (The Last Train of Happiness).[5][6]
From 2018 onwards, Lin began releasing solo material under the name Marz23. Taiwanese music retailer 5大唱片 describes him as gaining attention in the Taiwanese emo rap scene with singles such as "Don't Wanna Wake Up", "I Hate You", "脆弱" and "我不是饒舌歌手".[7]
His first full-length solo album, 23, was released in August 2020 through Warner Music Taiwan and compiles his earlier singles with additional new tracks.[8][9]
In April 2023, Marz23 released his second solo album Not So Far Away (不遠處). Retailer descriptions and media coverage note that the album continues the style of 23 and addresses themes such as personal struggle and emotional growth.[3][10]
Not So Far Away was nominated for Best Mandarin Male Singer at the 35th Golden Melody Awards, where Marz23 received his first nomination in the category.[2][11] The song "情勒", performed by Marz23 and ØZI, also earned a nomination for Best Single Producer.[12]
In 2024, Vogue Taiwan reported that Marz23 won the "hito Most Explosive Singer" award at the 2024 hito Music Awards and that "情勒" was selected as one of the 2023 hito Top Ten Mandarin Songs.[13]
In 2025 he announced his first solo concert at Taipei Arena, titled Not So Simple Concert (不簡單的演唱會), scheduled for November 2025; the press conference and ticketing were covered by Taiwanese news agencies and entertainment media.[14][15]
Internationally, BroadwayWorld and other English-language outlets have reported on his planned North American tour and described him as a Taiwanese emo rock artist whose music blends rock and rap influences.[16]
Media coverage often describes Marz23's solo work as combining elements of rock, emo and rap. Vogue Taiwan has associated him with "Emo Rap", noting his heavily tattooed image and emotionally direct vocal style,[1] while Taiwanese music services have highlighted his mixture of rock instrumentation with hip hop-influenced rhythms and vocal delivery.[17] In a playlist feature produced with Vogue Taiwan, he cited artists including Lil Peep and bands such as My Chemical Romance and The Killers as important influences.[18]
CNA reported in 2024 that Marz23 became a father in 2023 and planned to bring his eight-month-old son with him on the red carpet at the 35th Golden Melody Awards.[19]
The Golden Melody Awards are major music awards presented annually in Taiwan.
The hito Music Awards are organised by Taiwanese radio station Hit FM.
