Martin Topp (born September 6, 2005) is an American cybersecurity professional, software engineer, and author. He is a prominent member of the Indiana Institute of Technology (Indiana Tech) Cyber Warriors, an elite collegiate cyber defense team. Topp is recognized for his contributions to enterprise virtual machine provisioning and for co-authoring the 2023 book Colin's Question.

Early life and education

Topp was born and raised in Highland, Indiana. He attended Highland High School, where he served as the Student Government President and was a member of the National Honor Society.[1]

Of Puerto Rican descent, Topp is a member of the Hispanic Collegiate Honors Society. He is currently pursuing dual Honors Bachelor of Science degrees in Cybersecurity and Criminal justice at Indiana Institute of Technology, with an expected graduation in 2027.[2]

Career

Topp's professional focus is on offensive security and infrastructure automation. In 2026, he joined the Indiana Cyber Network as a Security Analyst, specializing in adversary emulation and GRC compliance. He is scheduled to intern as a Security Consultant for Google Mandiant in the summer of 2026.[1]

Technical projects

Topp is the developer of ClassCloud, a custom-built virtual machine provisioning platform utilized by over 500 students at Indiana Tech. The platform integrates enterprise SSO and OAuth to allow students to access lab environments via a web browser without the need for a VPN.[2] He has also worked on deploying local AI models trained on university documentation to assist students with competition preparation.

Cybersecurity competitions

As the Windows Specialty Lead for the Indiana Tech Cyber Warriors, Topp manages Active Directory hardening and Group Policy security for competition environments. The team has achieved significant success during his tenure:

  • Midwest Regional CCDC: Champions (2024, 2025).[3]
  • National CCDC: 6th place finish in 2025, a university record.[4]
  • NCAE Cyber Games: Named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2025.[1]

Authorship

In March 2023, Topp co-authored the book Colin's Question with John R. MicLore 3rd.[5] The project began as a personal challenge following a ten-dollar bet with a friend regarding Topp's ability to become a published author before the age of 18.
