Early life and education

Morris is a native of Decatur, Alabama, where he was an all-state linebacker at Decatur High School in 1989.[4] He attended the University of Alabama and was a linebacker on the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, playing on the program's 1992 national championship team.[3][1] He earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Alabama in 1994.[5]

Morris later received a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2006.[5] He subsequently pursued a doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis at Wisconsin.[6]

Career

Before entering college athletics administration, Morris worked for several years in the financial services industry.[2]

University of Wisconsin

Morris joined the University of Wisconsin athletic department in 2011 and held a variety of financial management roles, later serving as its chief financial officer.[7][2] As CFO, he had primary oversight of the department's approximately $150 million financial and operations budget.[2] He also taught as an adjunct professor within the University of Wisconsin System on subjects including NCAA governance and compliance, budget and financial management, and legal issues in higher education.[2]

University of Notre Dame

In 2019, Morris was hired by the University of Notre Dame as deputy athletics director for business operations, and he later became executive deputy athletics director.[7][1] In that role he oversaw core business functions of the athletics department, including budgeting, business operations, human resources, contracts, technology and facilities.[7] He additionally served as an adjunct professor teaching athletic administration in the MBA program at Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business.[2] In 2021, Morris was named Manager of the Year by the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA).[8]

NCAA

In August 2022, the NCAA named Morris its senior vice president of administration and chief financial officer, succeeding the retiring Kathleen McNeely.[2][1] He began the role on September 12, 2022.[1] In the position, Morris provides oversight of the association's financial activity and administrative operations.[2]

Recognition

Morris was named the College Athletic Business Management Association's Manager of the Year in 2021.[8] He has been inducted into the Morgan County (Alabama) Sports Hall of Fame.[9]
