Machinecraft Technologies is an Indian manufacturer of thermoforming and vacuum forming machines, headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Founded in 1976 by B.P. Doshi, a polymer chemist from the Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly UDCT Mumbai ), the company is one of India's oldest thermoforming equipment manufacturers and has exported machines to over 35 countries.[1] The company has been recognized as one of the top plastic thermoforming machine manufacturers in India.[2]

History

Founding and early years (1976–1990 )

Machinecraft was established in 1976 by Bhanuchandra P. Doshi, a polymer chemist who graduated from the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), Mumbai. The company's inception occurred after Doshi visited a customer in Hyderabad who was importing expensive German-made machines to assemble refrigerator parts. Recognizing an opportunity for domestic manufacturing, Doshi built one of India's first vacuum forming machines for processing polystyrene thermoformed panels for refrigerators.[3]

In the 1980s, as India imposed steep import taxes on foreign goods under its import substitution policy, the demand for domestically manufactured industrial machinery increased, further establishing Machinecraft's position in the Indian market.[3]

International expansion (1990–2010 )

The second generation of the Doshi family — Deepak Doshi and Rajesh Doshi — joined the business around 1990 and expanded operations internationally. They initially supplied vacuum forming machinery for manufacturing acrylic bathtubs to the Middle Eastern market. The company subsequently expanded to Europe, where customer requirements led to the incorporation of advanced automated PLC-controlled zone heating and automatic sheet loading features around 1998.[3]

During this period, Machinecraft began exhibiting at the K-Show in Düsseldorf, Germany — the world's largest trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry. The company was noted as one of the key Indian companies showcasing plastic processing machinery at the event, and was described as "possibly the only company showcasing thick gauge single station thermoforming machines" from India at K-Show.[3][4]

Third generation and partnerships (2010–present )

The third generation of the family, including Rushabh Doshi and Akash Doshi, joined the company in the 2010s, further expanding its international reach and technology portfolio.[5]

In March 2019, Machinecraft established a technology partnership with FRIMO, a German company specializing in plastics processing technologies. Under this partnership, FRIMO transferred know-how for manufacturing automotive interior technologies in India, including vacuum lamination, press lamination, and In-Mold Graining (IMG ) thermoforming. The collaboration aimed to serve Tier-1 automotive suppliers in India such as Motherson, Tata Auto Components, and Faurecia.[3]

The company also partnered with FVF, a Japanese firm, for 3D film lamination technologies used in automotive interiors, particularly for paint-free metallic-finish exterior panels for electric vehicle platforms.[3]

In 2020, Machinecraft opened a new production facility in Umargam, Gujarat, supported by funding from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) under the Make in India initiative.[3]

The company exhibited at K 2025 in Düsseldorf (Hall 3, Stand D85)[6] and made its debut at NPE 2024 in Orlando, Florida.[7]
