Lydia May

Lydia May (born Lydia May Whitbread; 26 January 2004[1]) is an Australian-British singer-songwriter and producer based in London. Her music blends elements of alternative pop and rock, and she has released a number of independently produced singles since 2023.

Early life and education

Lydia May was born in Sandringham, Melbourne, Australia. She began writing songs at the age of nine. She attended the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in Melbourne before moving to the United Kingdom. From 2018 to 2022, she studied at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon.

Career

Lydia May began producing music using GarageBand[2] before later working with Logic Pro. She began releasing music independently in 2023, including the singles "Lifesaver"[3][4] and "Social Cues"[5][6]. In 2025, she released additional singles including "Prom", "Star Girl"[7], and "Drop Dead Gorgeous". In 2026, she released her new single called "PURGER"[8] which has received airplay on BBC Nottingham [9] and BBC Introducing.[10]

She has performed at the Glastonbury Festival[11] and was featured in Birmingham Mail [12] and Wales Online [13] because of it. May has supported other artists in live performances including Lexie Carroll [14], Eileen Alister[15], Ocean LeClair[16], and Chloe Slater.[17]

She was featured in the Yorkshire Times[18] after performing in The Lending Room in 2023.[19]

Her music has received airplay on BBC Introducing multiple times[20] [21] and has featured on Spotify's "New Pop UK" playlist .[22]

Artistry

Lydia May is a member of Loud LDN. Her music has been described as alternative pop rock with influences from musical theatre. She has cited David Bowie, Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine, and Carole King as influences.
