Love Letter (Band)

Love Letter is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band is known for its releases within the DIY music scene, including its debut EP and first studio album.

Love Letter is a power trio consisting of Spirit Bonewitz (guitar, vocals), True Bonewitz (bass, vocals), and Julian Frillici (drums). Since its formation, the band's lineup has remained unchanged. During some of the group's early live performances, Spirit and True Bonewitz reportedly exchanged instruments; however, both musicians have remained in their respective roles as the band's guitarist and bassist.

History

Love Letter is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2022 by brothers Spirit Bonewitz (guitar, vocals) and True Bonewitz (bass, vocals). After spending several months rehearsing and performing in garages, Spirit attended his first house show, hosted by Mexican Slum Rats.[1] Motivated by the local DIY music scene, the brothers formed a band before True left for college[2]. Seeking a drummer, they consulted their older brother, who had previously performed with the bands Loft and Lillow. He introduced them to Julian Frillici, who joined as drummer. The lineup has remained unchanged since.

Love Letter released its debut single, "Goodbye Goodbye", on October 20, 2023. The song gained attention online and within the DIY music community. The band's second single, "Shut Up (& Kill Me)", followed shortly afterward and became a regular feature of their live performances, particularly at shows held at The Smell in Los Angeles.

On February 14, 2024, Love Letter released its debut EP, In Your Arms Again. The EP was issued while the band was undertaking its first tour of the Southwestern United States. Following the release, Love Letter continued touring throughout the West Coast and Las Vegas. Songs from the EP, including "Insomnia" and "Love Letter", became staples of the band's live set.

On June 20, 2025, Love Letter released two singles from its debut studio album, You Look Good in Red. The album was announced on July 1, 2025, and released on August 4, 2025. Following the album's release, the band performed with acts including Tigers Jaw, Mexican Slum Rats, Clarion, and Your arms are my Cocoon. Love Letter also embarked on a United States tour with Flying Fish [1]and performed a number of headlining shows. Tracks such as "See You Tomorrow" and "I'll Sing For You" received attention among the band's listeners.

In 2026, Love Letter performed at YR Renaissance Fest in Orange County, California. The band has also announced headlining dates across the West Coast and selected performances with Oakwood.

Musical Style

The band has released music under the genre Alternative Rock, Others In the scene believe it to be centered around a genre called Skramz blended in with a second-wave sound. [1] The band carries a sound filled with regret and yearning. The band does their best craft a sound that’s both intimately soft and crushingly heavy.
