Lex Border (born 1994) is an American ice climbing athlete. He is known for competing for the Team USA Ice Climbing World Cup Team with his competitive debut in the 2026 UIAA season. Lex holds a background biotechnology and business, with extensive experience in mining operations and life sciences.
Lex Border was born in 1994 in Mountain View, California. He spent his early childhood in Fort Collins, Colorado, before relocating to Derby, Kansas, where he attended middle school. He later moved to the Greater Salt Lake City area, completing his high school education there and remaining in Salt Lake City for much of his early adult life.
Lex earned a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Utah Valley University, graduating in 2016. He later returned to school to complete his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Southern Utah University, graduating in 2026.
Lex is an active competitive ice climber and has earned recognition within the U.S. climbing community. between 2024 and 2025 he competed in competitions in Utah and Colorado. In 2025, he qualified for the Team USA Ice Climbing World Cup Team[1], securing a place in the 2026 UIAA season climbing for Team USA[2], and competed in the UIAA world cups held in Saas-Fee Switzerland[3] and Longmont Colorado[4] His involvement at the international level marks a significant milestone in his athletic career.
At the end of the 2025-2026 UIAA World Cup season, Lex had a final standing of 35th in the world cup circuit[5]

Following high school, Lex began his professional career working in the Rio Tinto Kennecott Mine in Utah. He quickly became a valued contributor within the organization and developed technical expertise in mineral flotation, a key process in ore refinement and metals separation. His work in this area established him as a knowledgeable specialist in plant operations and metallurgical efficiency. He moved on to work representing multiple equipment suppliers traveling to plants for proof of concept testing around the United States.
Lex has lived in several regions of the United States, The Bay Area, Fort Collins, Colorado, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Wilmington, Delaware, before ultimately returning to Salt Lake City, where he continues his professional and athletic pursuits.
