Draft:Joseph Segond

Joseph Segond (Nizza, 13 febbraio 1872 – Nizza, 18 febbraio 1954) è stato un filosofo francese, studioso e professore di estetica.

Biography

He was a professor of philosophy at the lycée in Toulon from 1899 to 1911, and subsequently a professor of philosophy at the University of Aix-Marseille[1], as well as a correspondent of the Institut[2]. From 1940 to 1945, he held the Chair of Aesthetics[3] at the Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen. He is considered the originator of the concept of the “virtual arts”[4], the study and analysis of which resulted in the 1938 work La Notion d'Arts Virtuels, published as an article excerpted from the Revue Thomiste (Paris: Desclée de Brouwer et Cie, pp. 331–338). This inaugural contribution did not, however, exhaust his reflection on the subject, but rather constituted its theoretical foundation, from which the author would progressively develop the theme. This line of inquiry would culminate in the Traité d'esthétique of 1947, in which La Notion d'Arts Virtuels was incorporated into a broader philosophical-aesthetic framework. Internationally, he took an interest in the works of the French philosopher Henri-Louis Bergson and wrote L'Intuition bergsonienne[5] in 1913.[5] He received two important awards for his writings: in 1912, the Marcelin Guérin Prize for the work La prière, essai de psychologie religieuse, and in 1923, the Bordin Prize for the work L'Imagination.
