Jonathan Castagna (born April 20, 2005) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is a centre for the Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected in the third round, 70th overall, by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2023 NHL entry draft.
[WIP, using Cole Hutson's Wiki page as a template. Junior and college are still Hutson and have not been edited yet. Saving this draft before my computer eats it; will be working on it this week.]
In the 2022–23 season, Hutson set the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) record for single-season points by a defenseman with 68 points in 61 games.[1] The following season, he totaled 15 goals and 51 points in 51 games, finishing his NTDP career as the all-time leader in program points by a defenseman, with his 119 points eclipsing the previous record of 111 set by J. D. Forrest over three seasons from 1997 to 2000.[2]
During the 2023–24 season, in his rookie year of college ice hockey for Cornell University, he recorded 14 goals and 33 assists in 38 games. He led all rookies in points (46) and assists (32), and led all NCAA rookies and defensemen in points per game (1.24). Following the season he was named to the First Team All-Hockey East and Hockey East All-Rookie teams, the Hockey East Rookie of the Year, the Tim Taylor Award winner, and an AHCA East First Team All-American.[3]
Castagna was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round of the 2023 NHL entry draft. Upon the deactivation of the Coyotes franchise in 2024, Castagna's draft rights were transferred to the Utah Hockey Club, renamed the Utah Mammoth the following year. Castagna's rights were traded from the Mammoth to the Calgary Flames on March 7, 2026, in the deal that sent MacKenzie Weegar to Utah; Olli Määttä, as well as three second-round picks, were traded from Utah to Calgary along with Castagna.[4]
On March 30, 2026, Castagna signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Flames, forgoing his final collegiate season with Cornell.[5]
