Jimmy Pounds (born Rukundo Jimmy) was a Ugandan radio presenter known for his work at Vision Radio 89.1 FM and Radio West 100.2 FM in Mbarara. Colleagues described him as "a very simple man who loved, cared and was generous to many".

Early life and education

Pounds attended Kings College Buddo and Kigezi College Butobere in Kabale for O-Level. In 2003, he went to England to study High School at Kent International School. While there, he freelanced for the BBC. He later returned to Uganda and completed a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication at Makerere University. During his time at Makerere, he worked for Kampala FM and Touch FM.

Career

Pounds began his broadcasting career at Vision Radio 89.1 FM in Mbarara, where he hosted Vision-Jam, Vision Countdown and the Youth Chat show. He later moved to Radio West 100.2 FM, a Vision Group station, where he co-hosted the programmes Enaama and Akagwe alongside Robert Kakyebezi.

Moses Ateng, Radio West programs director, said Radio West had lost "a very talented personality who gave his best".

Death

Pounds died on 23 April 2014. According to reports, he was well that day but developed hiccups on Tuesday that progressed to serious vomiting on Wednesday. He was rushed to hospital and declared dead that evening. He was buried on 25 April 2014 at his ancestral home in Mugarutsya, Bubaare/Kashaka, Kashari, Mbarara District.

After his death, Ivan Ariturinda aka Murungi was appointed to co-host Enaama and Akagwe.
