Jay Hammonds (born 1992)[1] is an American public speaker, entrepreneur, and award-winning technologist.[2] He is currently works at Robinhood Markets as its head of Technology Operations. Hammonds previously worked for Facebook as an Executive Support engineer providing technical support to its executive team. Hammonds was named by Forbes to their Forbes 30 Under 30 listing in 2018.
Born in Hayward, California,[3] Hammonds was adopted as an infant by a family friend.[4]
In 2012, Hammonds gained a Facebook internship through the non-profit organization, Year Up, which is a career training program for low-income young adults.[3][4][5] After the completion of the internship, he started working at Facebook as an entry level analyst without a college degree. Following the acquisition of Instagram by Facebook in 2012, Hammonds assisted in integrating Instagram into Facebook's network and scaling its staff from 13 employees to over a thousand.[2]
In 2018, Hammonds was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in its Enterprise Technology category[1] and was noted as an alumni and mentor for Year Up.[3][6][7] By 2020, he was part of Facebook's Executive Support Engineering team[7][8] and was leading tech initiatives for Facebook executives and the "company's programming for an inner-city youth initiative he created"[2] that, as of 2018, had brought on 150 interns to the company.[1]
Hammonds left Facebook in 2021 to join Robinhood Markets. As of 2025 he was the company's Head of Technical Support Services[9] and the following year was noted as its Head of Technology Operations.[10]
