  • Comment: Sherwin-Smith is only notable for his campaign to be elected to the Nationwide BS board of directors (fails notability per WP:BLP1E). Outside of this single aspect, the article lacks any significant coverage (in-depth; more than passing mentions) about him (rather than works by him) in published reliable independent secondary sources - this excludes his personal and campaign websites, his employer website, Companies House pages, a broken link (ref 6) and a page that doesn't mention him (8). The Daily Mail is deprecated; it is not a reliable source for Wikipedia. Paul W (talk) 15:38, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

James Sherwin-Smith (born January 1981)[1] is a British financial technology and payments executive[2] and the first member-nominated candidate for election to the Board of Directors of Nationwide Building Society since 2005.[3]

Early life and education

Sherwin-Smith was educated at Charterhouse, in Surrey, and obtained a degree in engineering, economics & management from the University of Oxford.[4]

Career

Sherwin-Smith co-founded the internet analytics business Hitmatic in 2000[5][6] and worked for management consulting firm Oliver Wyman 2005–2013, where in 2008 he co-authored a report for the European Association of Co-operative Banks titled "Co-operative bank: Customer Champion"[7] and in 2012 authored a report for Efma (now Qorus)[8] titled "Advanced and Mobile Payments - What's Stopping You?"[9]. He later (2017–2023) worked for Vocalink, where in 2019 he co-authored a paper titled "Democratising access to real-time payments with managed services".[10] As part of his campaign to "increase representation of members’ interests at the highest level of decision-making at Nationwide",[11] he wrote an opinion piece that was published in The Times titled "Nationwide’s poor voter turnout shows the feeling isn’t mutual."[12] It was reported on 27 April 2026 that Sherwin-Smith had received the requisite nominations to be on the 2026 ballot for election to the Nationwide board of directors.[3][13]

Personal life

Sherwin-Smith is married and lives in West Sussex.[14][15]
